Apax backs up French team

The private equity firm has boosted its Paris office to be able to absorb increased deal activity in the region.

Apax Partners, the international private equity group, has bolstered its French office with the appointment of five new associates. The group said it wanted to strengthen its dealmaking capabilities amid increased activity in the region.

Olivier Morali and Alexandre Scherer become members of Apax's biotechnology and healthcare team. Morali was formerly an audit consultant at Arthur Andersen, where he specialised in the biotech sector. Scherer moves over from Zefer, an internet strategy consultancy that he co-founded.

Thomas de Villeneuve enters the media division. Before this he worked for Boston Consulting Group specialising in media and telecommunications. He has also worked in mergers and acquisitions for Crédit Lyonnais Securities.

Bruno Candelier and Guillaume-Olivier Dore join Apax's leveraged buyout team. Prior to this appointment Candelier was a consultant at McKinsey, where he worked on strategic projects, acquisitions and operational development. He then co-founded his own firm, Body iQ where he was strategic director of business development.

Dore was at PricewaterhouseCoopers and then joined 3i’s private equity unit and was a member of the team that opened the group’s Lyon office. Prior to that he was an investment-banking manager for IBM Global Financing.

Apax is the latest firm to take another look at its French connection. Last month, the Italian private equity firm Wizard Partners opened a Paris office, and earlier in the year Candover and Electra Partners expanded their French teams.
