Global private equity firm Apax Partners has announced the appointment of Lars Johansson as director and head of Nordic operations in Stockholm.
Johansson joins from IT Provider, a Stockholm-based venture capital firm with SEK3 billion (€330 million; $400 million) across four investment funds under management. As senior partner at IT Provider Johansson, a former technology banker and management consultant, was focused mainly on the firm’s software investments.
Johansson will be working alongside Simon Linfors, who also joins from IT Provider, and Andrew Barrett, a London-based Apax executive who moved to Stockholm in 2003 to set up a local presence. The team will be extended further ‘in the near future,’ Apax said in a statement.
Martin Halusa, Apax’s chief executive, said in the announcement that Scandinavia’s strength in biotechnology, mobile data and software was attractive given the firm’s sector focus and investment strategy. The Stockholm team would invest ‘in partnership with Nordic venture capitalists,’ Halusa said, adding that buyout opportunities in the region would also be ‘actively pursue[d].’
Apax said that it has already invested in Nordic transactions valued at over €820 million.
