Berwin Leighton Paisner makes PE hire

The UK law firm has appointed investment funds specialist Timothy Spangler as the firm looks to boost its private equity practice.

City law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner continues to develop its investment funds group, having announced the appointment of Timothy Spangler.

Spangler joins the firm from Latham & Watkins. Prior to joining Latham & Watkins in May 2000, Spangler worked for Clifford Chance Rogers & Wells in London during a stint which included a secondment at Morgan Stanley Investment Management).

John Bennett, head of corporate at Berwin Leighton Paisner said that Spangler’s experience of fund structures and his US expertise and contacts would enhance the firm's funds practice.

The appointment will bring Berwin Leighton Paisner's funds group to eleven lawyers as the firm continues to increase headcount and experience with a view to playing an increased role in the structuring of private equity funds.  Recent work for the group has included acting for Gresham Trust, Shore Capital, Lloyds TSB Development Capital and Granville Private Equity Managers. The firm reported turnover last year of £86m.
