Bregal Investments ups Bregal Partners fund size

Bregal Investments has committed an additional $100 million to Bregal Partners’ debut fund bringing the total funds raised to $600 million.

The fund was launched in 2012 with a $500 million commitment from Bregal Investments, the corporate investment arm of Brenninkmeijer family.

Bregal Partners has appointed Charles Yoon a managing partner, according to a statement. He joins managing partners Robert Bergmann and Scott Perekslis as the fund invests $25 million to $150 million in consumer, food, specialty retail and healthcare retail businesses that generate $10 million to $75 million in annual EBITDA.

“We have known Charles for over 15 years and believe he is a perfect fit as we scale the Bregal Partners platform,” said Bergmann. “This 20% increase provides us with plenty of dry powder to continue to pursue our investment strategy.”

Prior to joining Bregal, Yoon was a partner at Massachusetts midmarket firm Monitor Clipper Partners, where he worked for 11 years. He began his career at Morgan Stanley Capital Partners and joined California’s Brentwood Associates in 1997.

Yoon has sat on numerous corporate boards, including My Eye Dr, Castor & Pollux/Merrick Pet Care, Earth Fare, Pilot Automotive, Paradigm Tax Group and Market Track. 

In August, Bregal Partners closed its recapitalisation of fish processing company American Seafoods through an investment from Oregon seafood processing company Pacific Seafood Group.

Bregal Investments was set up in 2002 to invest in private equity on behalf of COFRA Holdings, a Swiss-based holding company for a privately-owned group of companies. It invests in private equity both through fund commitments and directly. Bregal has invested more than €8 billion since 2002.

Earlier this month Bregal Investments backed the launch of Freshstream Capital’s debut private equity fund with €600 million as reported by Private Equity International. A team of former TowerBrook Capital Partners dealmakers launched Freshstream to invest between €30 million and €100 million in the UK and Benelux markets.
