Capital Z targeting $400m for Fund V

The Bradley Cooper and Robert Spass-led Capital Z Partners has set a $400m target for Fund V.

Financial services specialist Capital Z Partners is targeting $400 million for its fifth fund, according to US Securities and Exchange Commission documents filed Tuesday. 

Capital Z, which is headquartered in New York, typically invests in financial services companies in the the insurance, reinsurance, healthcare, specialty finance and asset management sectors, according to its website. The firm’s investment size is $30 million and up, depending on the size of its committed capital base and the presence of co-investors. 

Sixpoint Partners is listed as an associated broker or dealer on the fund. 

Capital Z’s managing partners Bradley Cooper and Robert Spass could not be reached for comment.  

Spass and Cooper founded Capital Z in 1990, according to the firm’s website. Prior to launching the firm, both had worked at Salomon Brothers, where Spass was a director in the investment banking division. Cooper was an investment banker in Salomon’s financial institutions group. 

The team has invested more than $2.6 billion across 55 US and European transactions since its inception, according to the firm’s website.
