Global private equity firm The Carlyle Group has hired David Balint as director of Carlyle Asia Leveraged Finance Group. Balint will be based in Sydney and will manage the firm’s operations in Australia and New Zealand, the firm said.
Balint was earlier a director of the leveraged and acquisition business at ANZ Bank in Sydney, where he led deal sourcing and was engaged in arranging and underwriting transactions. Before that, he worked as a financial advisor and underwriter at ANZ’s project and structured finance business in Melbourne and London, focusing on markets in Australia, Europe and the Middle East.
In his new role, Balint reports to Eric R. Mason, head of Carlyle Asia leveraged finance group.
Mason said: “David’s addition underscores Carlyle’s continued confidence in the investment opportunities in leveraged finance within the Asia Pacific region. Adding a senior executive based in Sydney to work with our investment professionals in Tokyo and Hong Kong also reaffirms the team’s commitment to maintaining a strong local presence in its core markets.”
Carlyle Asia leveraged finance group was set up in mid-2007 with the hire of Mason from JP Morgan Securities Asia. The team now comprises of six investment professionals – four of whom are based in Hong Kong, and one each in Tokyo and Sydney respectively.
Globally, Carlyle’s leveraged finance group manages $14 billion (€8.9 billion) across 24 funds.
