Chart of the Week: Proportion of top 10 funds

The largest 10 funds in Q1 2015 collected $38.86 billion, a third more than in the same period last year. The largest fund to close in the quarter was NGP Natural Resources XI, which raised $5.33 billion. Some LPs that have committed to the fund include Adams County Retirement Plan, Los Angeles Fire & Police Pension System and Alaska Permanent Fund.

In Q1 last year, $80.29 billion was raised with another energy fund, Energy Capital Partners III, becoming the largest fund to close with $5.04 billion in capital commitments. Hartford Healthcare Corporation, Employees' Retirement System of the State of Hawaii are known to have committed to the fund.

The theme of more capital being raised by a select group of GPs continues.
