James Coleman, who worked on a number of high-profile private equity fundraisings at UBS, has become the latest recruit to the new placement agent team at Deloittes.
While at UBS, Coleman worked on transactions that raised a total of $14.8bn on behalf of funds such as 3i Eurofund IV, Blackstone Capital Partners IV, Candover 2001 and TVM V.
Said Chris Ward, Deloittes’ head of corporate finance advisory: “Since we launched our fundraising service in August, we have received a huge level of interest from private equity houses who feel they are not served by the current market players. James brings exceptional experience of the placement business and an impressive network of potential investor contacts.”
The placement sector has seen considerable upheaval this year, with Coleman’s previous employer UBS having repositioned its global placement team to focus on US mandates. Other developments included the departure of a team of seven from Merrill Lynch to Lazard and the subsequent appointment of five new professionals at Merrills.
The Deloittes placement team is headed by Ward, who previously specialised in management buy-ins and buyouts, and John Maxey, a senior tax partner. It is currently focused on fundraisers based in Western Europe and claims to be competing for a number of undisclosed mandates.
