Deakin: promoted to partner

Deakin qualified as a chartered accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers, after which he worked at Deloitte & Touche Corporate Finance, before joining Phoenix Equity Partners in October 2001 as an investment manager.

Transactions Deakin has worked on at Phoenix include: the February 2005 acquisition of Weststar Holiday Parks for an undisclosed sum; the £101 million (€149 million; $180 million) sale of luxury shoe business Jimmy Choo to Hicks Muse (Europe) in November 2004; and the £120 million realisation of car status information provider HPI to Norwich Union in August 2004.

Deakin has worked primarily on leisure investments from Phoenix Equity Partners’ Phoenix Equity Partners IV fund, which closed on £303 million in March 2001. According to a statement released at the time of Phoenix’s bid for Ottakar’s bookshop in August – which subsequently lapsed – £181 million of the fund had been invested by the end of August, leaving £122 million remaining for drawdown.
