Atlas leads Newron financing; ACT Venture Capital backs AEP

Atlas leads Newron financing

Newron Pharmaceuticals announced today the closing of an E18.5m second round financing led by Atlas Venture. Existing investor 3i has also participated in the round. Newron is a clinical-stage company discovering and developing innovative CNS drugs.

The financing will be used to further the firm’s research and development of its epilepsy and Parkinson's disease treatments. Italy-based Newron Pharmaceuticals was originally part of Pharmacia & Upjohn until its spin-out in 1999.

ACT Venture Capital backs AEP

Internet data security products provider AEP has completed a E14.5m funding round.  Investors in the funding round included ACT Venture Capital, Enterprise Ireland, AIB Equity as well as existing AEP shareholders Intel Communications Fund, Island Capital and Mentor Capital.

The new funding will be used by AEP to expand its range of products and services, and to build a sales and marketing organization in North America, Asia-Pacific and Europe. The company also announced the appointment of former Modus Media group president Pat Donnellan as chief executive officer.
