DVC hires two more for tech investing

The German VC has recruited two former managers of TeleSoft Europe as it continues to explore telecommunications technology.

In a move that will have some fellow VCs who are shedding staff raise their eyebrows, DVC Deutsche Venture Capital (DVC) has announced the appointment of Dr. Wolfgang Krause and Cyril Bertrand from Telesoft Europe GmbH, the European branch of the Silicon Valley VC firm TeleSoft Partners, in order to bolster its investment know-how in the telecommunications technology sector.

At a time when many VCs and their investors are retrenching from both the technology and telecommunications sectors, DVC sees an investment opportunity to buy valuable assets at low prices in a market that is not going to go away.  “Although the current market situation is difficult, the communication market represents an annual investment volume of more than E250bn worldwide”, commented Dr. Krause.

As Managing Director of TeleSoft Europe GmbH, Krause built the European presence of Telesoft Partners, which specialised in telecommunication investments. From 1998 to 2000, he was venture partner and head of venture capital activities at Mannesmann AG. Krause becomes a partner at DVC. Bertrand was a Senior Associate at TeleSoft Partners and worked for more than eight years in various operational positions in Silicon Valley.

Set up in 1998, DVC has offices in Munich and Berlin and has invested in 47 companies in life sciences and technology sectors. In August 2000, it started to invest its third, E200m, fund. It aims to invest between E0.5m and E8m in approximately 15 companies in Germany, Europe and USA each year.
