ECI boosts deal origination team

The UK mid-market private equity firm has appointed a new business development manager to focus on intermediaries.

ECI Partners, the London-headquartered mid-market buyout firm has appointed Charlie Johnstone as business development manager.

Johnstone joins from global financial advisers, Ernst & Young, where he worked in the corporate finance division and most recently in corporate restructuring focusing on business development with private equity firms.

Johnstone will work as a business development manager, focusing on intermediaries. He will liaise with James Stewart who is responsible for ECI’s direct origination programme and manages the group’s hands-on chairman and MBI programmes.

Ken Landsberg, managing director of ECI, commenting on the appointment said: “I’m delighted to welcome Charlie to ECI. His appointment reflects our commitment to working effectively with intermediaries in order to maximise the proportion of deals which we see within our target markets.”

ECI was originally founded in 1976 as Equity Capital for Industry and has offices in London and Manchester with a staff of 14 investment professionals. The firm is owned by its management team and manages funds of approximately £350 million (€530 million; $645 million).

The firm closed its seventh private equity fund on £175 million in 2000 and recently sold contact centre services provider MM Group, its seventh exit in the last 18 months. In March, ECI acquired Nuaire Limited, a UK fan manufacturer for £38 million.
