Evercore nabs Welsh Carson partner(2)

Investment banking boutique Evercore Partners has boosted its private equity management team with the appointment of James Matthews to be a senior managing director and the co-head of its private equity group, Evercore said in a statement.

Matthews joins the firm from New York-based Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe where he was a general partner. He was with Welsh Carson for seven years. Prior to joining the firm, he was a partner at Connecticut private investment firm JH Whitney.

At Welsh Carson, Matthews specialised in the information and business services sectors and worked on private equity and subordinated debt investments, the statements said.

At Evercore, Matthews will help source potential investment opportunities and will co-lead the firm’s daily activities with Neeraj Mital, the current senior managing director at the firm. Both Matthews and Mital will report to Austin Beutner, the co-chief executive officer and chief investment officer at the firm.

“[Matthews’] depth of experience in business services and mature technology complements our firm’s extensive relationship network and will add to our industry expertise in these two strategically important sectors,” Beutner said in the statement.

Based in New York and with offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco, London, Monterrey, Mexico and Mexico City, Mexico, Evercore consists of an advisory business, as well as a private equity one that invests in middle-market companies.  Evercore Partners raised $83 million in its initial public offering in August, with nearly four million shares sold at $21 per share. The firm bought Braveheart Financial Services Limited, a London-based advisory and investment management firm based in London, in December.
