GMT does 12th bolt-on for B2B info provider

DOCUgroup has spent roughly €125m to grow via strategic acquisitions since being acquired by the mid-market firm in 2004.

GMT Communications Partners is continuing to grow DOCUgroup, a construction-focused, business-to-business information service provider.

Last week’s acquisition of Reed Business Information’s Nordic assets marks the company’s 12th bolt-on. Since becoming majority-controlled by the media- and communications-focused firm in 2004, DOCUgroup has spent approximately €125 million on acquisitions including Springer Science + Business Media’s construction information division in 2007.

“We are always looking for smaller acquisitions,” said GMT principal Sebastian Sipp, who added the company has “a couple more in the pipeline”.

Sipp said the firm is particularly focused on helping the company acquire businesses modelled around sustainable subscription-based revenues.

It’s important the company reduces advertising exposure, “because only then can you predict future earnings”, he said.

London-based GMT is investing from its third fund, which closed in July 2007.
