Chicago-based mid-market specialist GTCR has promoted vice presidents Aaron Cohen and Sean Cunningham to principals.
Cohen joined the firm in 2003 after working as an analyst at private equity firm Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst and at Salomon Smith Barney. Cunningham was previously a consultant with The Boston Consulting Group before joining GTCR in 2001.
Cohen focuses on the financial services and technology sector at GTCR. Cunningham works on the firm’s healthcare investments team. GTCR’s third core sector is information services and technology.
In February, the firm hired vice president Stephen Jeschke from Bain Capital.
GTCR, which closed its tenth and largest ever fund on $3.2 billion in February, has 40 investment professionals that work out of the firm’s Chicago headquarters. GTCR made its first investment from the fund in June by acquiring Merlin Media, which owns and operates media assets including Chicago radio stations WKQX and WLUP and New York station WRXP.
