LASERS commits $100m to Asia-based fund

Louisiana State Employees’ Retirement System has committed $100 million to Baring Asia Private Equity Fund VIII. The approved commitment comes from its recent board meeting minutes.

Hong Kong-based fund manager Baring Private Equity Asia is currently in market raising $8.5 billion for its flagship private equity vehicle. It is LASERS’ second commitment to the manager. Previously, the pension fund had committed $100 million to its predecessor fund, Baring Asia Private Equity Fund VII.

The $13.7 billion US public pension currently allocates 18.2 percent of its investment portfolio to alternatives. As illustrated below, LASERS’ recent fund commitments have targeted various private equity vehicles across multiple sectors.
