Latham & Watkins hires Frankfurt partner

The US law firm has appointed former Luther Menold partner Hans-Jürgen Lütt as a partner at the firm’s private equity M&A practice in Frankfurt.

Latham & Watkins, the US M&A specialist law firm, has appointed Hans-Jürgen Lütt as a partner at the firm’s German office in Frankfurt.

Lütt, a former partner at German law firm Luther Menold, is a mergers and acquisitions specialist. Recently, he has been involved in a number of significant private equity transactions. He played a leading role in several of the largest M&A transactions in Germany this year and is presently representing BC Partners in its ongoing purchase of the TeleColumbus cable television assets from Deutsche Bank.

Lütt, who is expected to join Latham & Watkins before the end of June, became an attorney of one of the predecessor firms of Luther Menold in 1991. He became a local partner at Andersen Luther in 1998 and an international partner at Andersen Worldwide in 2001.

“Expanding Latham’s M&A and private equity practice in Germany has been a critical strategic objective since the firm opened here in 2001,” said Jörg Soehring, managing partner of Latham’s German offices, in a statement. “By bringing Hans-Jürgen Lütt into our team, we have taken another very significant step toward achieving this goal.”

Latham has a presence in Germany with more than 20 lawyers in Frankfurt and more than 55 lawyers in Hamburg. The firm’s Frankfurt and Hamburg offices practice under the name Latham & Watkins Schön Nolte. In Europe, Latham has grown to over 265 lawyers, located in Brussels, Frankfurt, Hamburg, London, Milan, Moscow and Paris.
