Macquarie Funds hires Japanese pro(3)

The fund of funds arm of Macquarie has hired Motoya Kitamura away from Tokyo advisory firm AI Capital.

Macquarie Funds Management, the private equity fund of funds division of global financial services firm Macquarie Group, has hired Motoya Kitamura away from Japanese alternative investment firm Alternative Investment Capital (AI Capital).

Kitamura will move to the Hong Kong office of Macquarie Funds to focus on covering Japanese private equity opportunities for the firm, but will also contribute to the firm’s global private equity mandate.

Tokyo-based AI Capital was founded in 2002 as a joint venture between Mitsubishi Corporation, and Daido Life Insurance Company. The firm manages funds of funds dedicated primarily to the Japanese private equity market.

Macquarie Funds, based in Sydney, in 2005 grew its business with the hiring of three professionals from La Jolla, California-based Pacific Corporate GroupPeter Martenson, Eric Becker and Rick Fratus. The firm is now based in Carlsbad, California. In total the firm has 16 investment professionals in Carlsbad, London, Hong Kong and Sydney.
