Michael E. Beblo, director of alternative investments at Pennsylvania State Employees’ Retirement System, passed away on 2 August at age 62 after a heart surgery, PA SERS spokesman Jay Pagni confirmed with PEI.
“Michael was an important part of the SERS investment team, with a deep knowledge of private market investing and widely regarded for his investment acumen,” Pagni said in a statement. “Not only an accomplished investor, Michael was a respected colleague.”
Beblo first joined PA SERS in August 2012, before which he was director of private equity at Alfred I. DuPont Testamentary Trust for almost eight years, according to his LinkedIn profile. He was chief financial officer at Tredegar Investments, principal at Hambrecht & Quist LLC and manager of private equity at the California Institute of Technology in his prior years.
Beblo, a chartered financial analyst, earned a Bachelor of Science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, a Master of Science from the University of Arizona and an MBA from Santa Clara University.
“He was very active in his community and supported several community organizations,” Pagni said. “Michael will be greatly missed.”
Among the recommendations on Beblo on his LinkedIn profile, Rumson Group managing director Alex Bangash wrote about Beblo: “Apart from being one of most knowledgeable investors, Michael is also one of nicest and most hardworking. He is an asset to any organization that he works with.”
