Compiling a list of Europe's 50 most influential private equity practitioners is something we've been looking forward to for some time, and this issue, marking PEI's crossing of the half way line of its first year in the market, is a worthy place for it to appear in.
Over the past few weeks, we've been talking to dozens of market practitioners about how our selection process was coming along, how they felt about certain choices and whether there was anyone we hadn't considered. Most of those quizzed responded enthusiastically, happily sharing their views on the ingredient that more than any other define private equity as a market place: the individuals who work in it.
Part of what makes the industry stand out is the fact that it is home to a large number of individualists and personalities that make covering it editorially a fun thing to do. Over the past two years we have got to know many of them, and many also made their way onto our list.
Given the subjectivity of the selection process, we're aware that not everyone will agree with who is and who isn't on the list we compiled. We'll be very interested to hear what you make of our choice.
