Westwood, Massachusetts-based Prism Venture Partners has hired Woody Benson as a general partner.
Benson, who has more than 23 years of technology and communications marketing experience, will focus on business infrastructure software and systems, and telecommunications investments.
Benson most recently served as the Boston head of Lazard Technology Partners, the venture capital arm of global investment bank Lazard that manages more than $400 million in capital and invests in early-stage communications and information technology companies.
Prior to Lazard, Benson was chairman, president and chief executive officer of MCK Communications, a provider of remote voice products for the telecommunications industry that was taken public under Benson’s direction in 1999.
Benson’s hire rounds out Prism’s senior investment team, whose latest addition in August 2003 was general partner Gordie Nye, who is a member of the firm's life sciences team.
Prism Venture Partners focuses on early-stage investments in communications, business infrastructure software and systems and life sciences. The firm currently manages more than $1 billion in capital.
