Providence recruits Morgan Stanley veteran

Andrew Tisdale has joined media specialist Providence Equity Partners having occupied many of the key positions in the communications sector at the investment bank.

US media and entertainment buyout specialist Providence Equity Partners has appointed Andrew Tisdale as a managing director in its London office.

Tisdale joins Providence from US bank Morgan Stanley, where he was co-global head of media and communications and a member of Morgan Stanley’s management committee for investment banking.

After joining Morgan Stanley in 1990 he served in a variety of senior positions advising on media and communications transactions in Europe, the US, the Middle East, Asia and Africa.

He was previously co-head of the media and communications group for Europe, the Middle East and Africa and also co-head of the same group for North and South America. From 1996 to 1999, Tisdale was head of Morgan Stanley's activities in Brazil.

He has worked on transactions by Morgan Stanley clients including computer company Apple, media group Bertelsmann, telecom group Deutsche Telekom and film studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. He has advised on transactions such as the sale of media company ProSieben.Sat1 to separate funds owned by KKR and Permira; the sale of Bertelsmann to the minority shareholders of RTL; and the acquisition by Vivendi of BMG Music Publishing.

Providence’s deals in the UK include an undisclosed investment in UK mobile store Phones4U.
