Roeser to head Commerzbank financial sponsors group

Former CSFB managing director Matthew Roeser has been appointed global head of Commerzbank’s new financial sponsors unit.

Commerzbank Securities, the investment banking division of Commerzbank AG, is to set up a new financial sponsors unit. The bank has appointed Matthew Roeser, until recently managing Director of CSFB's financial sponsors group, as the unit’s global head.

He will be responsible for global coverage of financial sponsors with a particular focus on European business and will report to Commerzbank’s head of capital markets, Mark Eban. Roeser has spent the last twelve years at Credit Suisse First Boston based in London. In 1998 he helped establish CSFB's financial sponsors group.

Eban said the firm saw ‘significant scope’ to expand its financial sponsors business in Europe. “The recent addition of syndicated loans, structured acquisition finance and private equity to our capital markets platform gives us significant competitive advantage in this area.”

Commerzbank has already been active in arranging and underwriting leveraged transactions both in Germany and across Europe to the value of just under E1.4bn.

As a division of Commerzbank AG, Commerzbank Securities has the backing of a E502.2bn balance sheet. The firm integrates equities, fixed income, capital structuring & advisory and foreign exchange, focussing on corporate risk and capital structuring.
