SL Capital Partners, the Boston- and Edinburgh-based private equity subsidiary of Standard Life Investments, has beefed up its US presence with the appointment of investment manager Whit Matthews.
Matthew joins from the University of Pennsylvania’s Office of Investments, where he researched private equity and absolute return strategies.
SL Capital Partners now has 18 professionals across its Edinburgh and Boston offices. The firm’s US team manages approximately $600 million in the US and €5.4 billion in Europe, which includes a €500 million mandate from US pension scheme CalPERS, named ESP Golden Bear Europe.
SL Capital Partners is currently marketing its 15th fund of fund product, European Strategic Partners 2008, for which it held a fourth close in August last year on €520 million.
A target size for the fund has not been disclosed, but the group’s previous European fund of funds closed on its €900 million cap in June 2007.
European Strategic Partners 2008 is scheduled to close in March 2008.
