SV hires AT&T’s Armstrong

In addition to hiring of C. Michael Armstrong, the New York-based Schroder affiliate has added two managing partners and two associates to its staff.

New York-based private equity firm SV Investment Partners has appointed C. Michael Armstrong to be its chairman.

C. Michael Armstrong joins SV Investment Partners

Armstrong, the former chairman and chief executive officer of phone, internet and data service provider AT&T, joined SV Investment Partners’ executive advisory board in 2003. In his new job, he will contribute to strategic and operational decisions made for the firm’s portfolio companies, the firm said in a statement. He will also review new investment opportunities.

Armstrong was also formerly the chairman and chief executive of internet and satellite provider Hughes Electronics, information technology company IBM World Trade Corporation and cable provider Comcast Corporation. He is a member of the firm’s investment committee and management committee. He is the chairman of its portfolio review committee.

The firm has made additional appointments. Nicholas Somers and Monty Yort have been named managing partners, and Jaime Fisher and Suzanne McManmon have joined as associates.

Somers and Yort both joined the firm in 1999. In their new positions, they will raise capital and take part in investing, operations and staffing.

Founded in 1999 as the US affiliate of UK-based Schroder Ventures and a subsidiary of Schroder plc, the firm was originally known Schroder Ventures US. It was renamed SV Investment Partners in 2001 following the sale of Schroder plc’s investment banking division. The firm focuses on buyouts of US-based middle market business services companies. It has nine private equity funds and has about $300 million in capital under management.

SV Investment Partners bought WILink plc, a global provider of investor relation services and web-based communication solutions, in August of 2006. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
