VC Pond recruits another partner

The UK-based early stage VC has added former Xerox man Peter van Cuylenburg to its partnership.

Pond Venture Partners, the UK early-stage venture capital firm, has appointed former Xerox Corporation vice president Peter van Cuylenburg as partner and advisory board member.

Van Cuylenburg will be responsible for identifying emerging technologies as potential investment opportunities. In addition to his work at Xerox, he is a former vice president of Texas Instruments' worldwide computer division, as well as the former CEO of Mercury Communications.

The arrival of van Cuylenburg proceeds the appointment of Michael Gera, former Merrill Lynch private equity group associate, who was made a partner in April.

The firm is currently investing its $80m Pond 2 Fund, of which half remains to be invested. Pond Ventures' most recent investment was the $7m first round funding of electronics components supplier Essient Photonics. Pond has in excess of $90m under management. The firm’s most notable success to date was its $3m investment in Microcosm, which was sold to Connexant in 2000 for $200m.
