Merck to acquire VC-backed Afferent Pharmaceuticals for $500 mln
Merck has agreed to acquire Afferent Pharmaceuticals, a developer of drugs that treat neurogenic conditions. According to the deal, Merck will receive an upfront payment of $500 million in cash. Afferent's backers included Fidelity Management & Research Company, New Leaf Ventures, Partner Fund Management, Redmile Group, Tekla Healthcare Investors and Tekla Life Science Investors.
