Sir John Collins

Collins’ appointment follows the passing of a resolution at the company’s last annual general meeting that called for the number of its maximum permitted directors to increase from six to seven.

Collins, formerly a non-executive director of NM Rothschild & Sons and The Peninsular and Oriental Navigation Company, also served as chairman and chief executive of Shell UK from 1990 to 1993.

He will be joining Peter Sedgwick, non-executive chairman of the board and Philip Austin, Martin Dryden, Peter Wagner, Paul Waller and Steven Wilderspin, all non-executive directors of 3i Infrastructure.

The Jersey-based company, which does not have any employees, is a London Stock Exchange-listed affiliate of private equity firm 3i Group, which advises its directors on investments. It recently reported profits of £50.3 million and 6.1 percent return on average shareholders’ equity in the six months through 30 September, versus profits of £33.6 million and 4.8 percent return for the same period last year.
