The Abraaj Group has promoted Huda Al Lawati to partner and CIO for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Al Lawati was previously a Managing Director at Abraaj, and has been leading investments across MENA in sectors such as oil and gas, healthcare, education, and food and beverage. She has been with the firm for over a decade, joining in 2004.
Prior to joining Abraaj, Al Lawati worked for Schlumberger and ABQ Zawya.
In her new role, Al Lawati will be responsible for originating, executing and monitoring the Group’s investments across the region, helping build a pipeline of new investments.
Abraaj made news earlier this week with the closure of its Sub-Saharan Africa-dedicated private equity fund on its $990 million hard-cap, as PEI reported at the time.
Abraaj Africa Fund III will focus on mid-market companies in the consumer goods and services, consumer finance, and resource and infrastructure services sectors in the core geographies of Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, South Africa, and Kenya.
