Advent hires chairman for Italian office

Advent International has boosted its Italian presence to cope with increased deal flow by hiring Francesco de Giglio from SocGen’s local private equity operation.

Advent International, a global private equity group, has named Francesco de Giglio as chairman of its Italian office. His appointment follows the growth of Advent’s activities in Italy and takes the firm’s Italian team to five people.

De Giglio: Italian veteran

De Giglio will work alongside existing managing director, John Singer, and principals Filippo de Vecchi and Giovanni Galasso.

A veteran of more than 18 years in Italian private equity, he is joining from Société Générale Private Equity Italia, where he has worked for the past six years, most recently on the divestment of an Italian business information services company, Lince.

Before SocGen De Giglio worked for ten years as central director of So.Pa.F., one of the earliest private equity players in Italy. His career has focused on mid-market pan-European buyouts.

Advent’s recent investments in Italy include AVIP, an independent outdoor advertising group, Gruppo Argenta, an Italian vending machine operator, and the acquisition of Mirabilandia, a leisure park, by Advent portfolio company and Spanish leisure park operator, Parques Reunidos.
