Ambienta, an Italy-based firm focused on pan-European investments in the environmental sector, has hired Nico Helling as a partner in its Munich office.
Helling, who joins the firm from European mid-market fund Vorndran Mannheims Capital Advisors, where he was a partner, will lead Ambienta’s operations in the German-speaking region.
Prior to Vorndran Mannheims, Helling spent 10 years at Montagu Private Equity, where he was responsible for the firm’s investment business in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, as well as Poland and Eastern Europe, according to Ambienta.
In a statement, Ambienta managing partner and co-founder Nino Tronchetti Provera said the DACH region represents “an attractive hub of long-term industrial investment opportunities for Ambienta.”
Ambienta has also promoted Francesco Lodrini and Giancarlo Beraudo, who have both been with the firm for four years, to principal.
The appointments come just months after Ambienta held a final close on its second fund on €323.5 million, above its initial €300 million target. The fund, which is considerably larger than the firm’s €217 million debut vehicle, will continue to follow the firm’s growth-focused strategy, targeting industrial businesses focused on resource efficiency and pollution control.
The fund attracted investors from around the world, including pension funds, insurance companies, funds of funds and family offices in Europe and the US. LPs included the European Investment Fund, Generali, HarbourVest, Hermes, Pantheon, RobecoSAM, Stafford Capital Partners, Unigestion and Zurich Insurance Group, as well as Italian LPs such as CNPADC, Fondazione Enasarco, Intesa Sanpaolo, Fondo Italiano di Investimento, and Poste Vita, PEI reported previously.
Ambienta has already begun investing the vehicle. Last July the firm acquired IP Cleaning, an Italian manufacturing business for the cleaning sector, for around €150 million, including some existing debt facilities. Ambienta is said to have invested €50 million of equity in the business.
