Amorim launches fund with €100m

The Portuguese investment group created a private equity arm that will target late stage investment opportunities.

European investment firm Amorim Investimentos e Participações, part of Portuguese conglomerate Amorim Group, has launched a private equity fund manager, Amorim Global Investors (AGI), with seed capital of €100 million.

AGI is Amorim Group’s first foray into private equity. It plans to invest private equity across a wide range of industry sectors and locations, targeting established companies with growth potential, the firm said.

Pedro Pinto Coelho, chief executive of AGI, will  manage the fund along with investment director Hugo Mendes Domingos, formerly of HSBC London, and investment manager Leonardo Pimenta de Carvalho, who has joined the AGI from ABN AMRO Bank.

Amorim Group was founded on the strength of its investment into cork manufacturing company Coticeira Amorim in 1870. The firm’s public investments include real estate, financial services, tourism, telecommunications, energy and infrastructure.
