Atlas boosts telecoms team

The international life sciences and IT investor has named a former Nortel Networks strategy partner as a venture principal for the firm’s US and European investments.

Atlas Venture, the international early stage venture capital firm investing in communications, information technology and life sciences companies, has announced the appointment of Anil Khatod as venture principal.

Khatod joins Atlas from Nortel Networks following 19 years at the Canadian communications company, most recently working as chief marketing and strategy officer.

Khatod will work with Atlas Venture’s investment principals in both Europe and the US, sourcing investments in emerging communications companies. He will also provide support to Atlas Venture’s existing portfolio companies.

Atlas has made six investments so far this year, including the recent £3m investment in Choreology, a UK-based business transaction management software company. In June, the firm became the first European venture capital firm to announce plans to reduce the size of its $970m Atlas Venture Fund VI by twelve per cent following a perceived reduction in viable investment opportunities in the sector.

Atlas Venture is investing its sixth international venture fund, and currently manages more than $2.4bn in committed capital. The firm divides its investments between Europe and the US and currently has offices in Boston, London, Menlo Park, Munich, Paris and Seattle. Khatod will be based at the firm’s US offices.
