PE-backed Saddle Resources acquires Chesapeake Energy's Barnett Shale interests

First Reserve-backed Saddle Barnett Resources agreed to acquire Chesapeake Energy Corporation's interests in the Barnett Shale, a North Texas natural gas and oil field. Saddle Resources is expected to pay an undisclosed sum to energy company Williams Partners as part of the transaction.

Aethon and partners acquire oil and gas assets from J-W Energy

Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, RedBird Capital Partners, and Aethon Energy Management acquired upstream and midstream oil and gas assets from J-W Energy. Located in northeast Texas and north Louisiana, these will be combined with Haynesville and Rockies assets acquired by Aethon and Redbird to form a join partnership called Aethon United.

Electro Rent goes private with Platinum Equity

Platinum Equity acquired Electro Rent Corporation for about $382 million. Electro Rent, which leases and sells electronic and computing equipment, was previously traded on the Nasdaq.

Bynder raised $22.2 million from Insight Venture Partners in a Series A funding round. A branding automation company, Bynder provides marketing software that helps companies collect and use content.

Finova Financial completes $52.5 mln funding

Finova Financial, an auto title lending platform, raised $52.5 million in a combination of equity and a credit facility. Investors included MHS Capital, Refactor Capital, Metamorphic Venture, and 500 StartUps, as well as entrepreneurs Sam Hodges and Jake Gibson. Al Hamra Group, the investment firm of the United Arab Emirates' ruling family, also participated. CoVenture provided the credit facility.

NewSpring invests in Interactions with Comcast Ventures and Revolution Growth

NewSpring Growth Capital made a $20 million investment in Interactions, a speech and natural language technology provider, along with Comcast Ventures and Revolution Growth. NewSpring is the dedicated growth and expansion stage fund of NewSpring Capital, a family of private equity funds focused in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Vestar-owned Woodstream names Miguel Nistal president

Woodstream Corporation announced the appointment of Miguel A. Nistal as president and CEO. Woodstream, a supplier of branded lawn and garden products, is a portfolio company of Vestar Capital Partners.
