Paris-headquartered AXA Private Equity has announced the appointment of Stephan Illenberger to the international private equity firm’s global executive committee.
Illenberger joins the committee, which already comprises chief executive Dominique Senequier, managing director of direct funds Dominique Gaillard and managing director of the fund of funds division Vincent Gombault.
Illenberger will continue in his role as managing director responsible for the firm’s operations in Germany, but will now also play a significant role in shaping the firm’s overall global strategy.
Commenting on the appointment, Senequier said: “Stephan’s appointment reflects the work he has done and the importance we place on the German market. At the same time as expanding our activities in Germany, he will now contribute his expertise globally.”
Illenberger joined AXA in 2001 and previously co-owned Doertenbach, an independent management company. From 1992 to 1997, he was head of corporate finance at NatWest Markets in Germany.
AXA recently completed its first deal from its third LBO fund, which closed on €500 million ($645 million) in February.
In December 2004, the firm announced the final closing of a new secondaries fund, AXA Secondary Fund III, on $1 billion.
AXA Private Equity has offices in Paris, London, New York and Singapore, from which it manages and advises private equity funds with assets in excess of €7 billion.
