Matt Grinnell has been appointed by Barclays Capital to oversee its financial sponsors coverage in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The hire of Nomura's former co-head of Euoropean financial sponsors coverage is part of BarCap's continuing expansion of its investment banking activities, it said in a statement.
“He will focus on strengthening our financial sponsors sector expertise and his team will provide M&A advice and strategic financing execution to clients in conjunction with product, country and sector colleagues globally,” said John Miller, global head of financial sponsors.
Grinnell will be based in London, reporting to Miller and Kevin Wall, BarCap's head of corporate finance for EMEA.
Before joining Nomura's financial sponsors team in 2006, Grinnell spent eight years working in New York for Lehman Brothers' media and communications group.
BarCap has recently hired several other former Lehman executives. In October 2008, BarCap extended its EMEA activities to Israel with the hire of Leonard Rosen, former CEO of Lehman Brothers' Israel division. In January, Takumi Tanaka, former head of Lehman Brothers Japan's financial sponsors unit, was hired by BarCap to perform the same role, with ex-Lehman colleague Rei Kyogoku also joining to head BarCap's FIG team in Japan.
