Barclays Private Equity, the mid-market private equity arm of UK bank Barclays, has hired Steven Whitehead as investment manager.
Whitehead was previously an assistant director in the corporate finance department of London-based investment banking group Altium Capital where he advised on both private and public transactions.
Whitehead will report to director John Walker in Barclays Private Equity’s Manchester office.
The firm has UK offices in London, Birmingham, Reading and Manchester. Barclays Private Equity also maintains offices in Paris, Munich, Milan and Zurich.
Barclays Private Equity is currently investing the €2.4 billion Barclays Private Equity European Fund III, which closed in September 2007.
The group invests between €500 million and €700 million of equity capital each year purchasing approximately 15 to 20 companies.
The firm also has raised five infrastructure investment funds totaling more than £1 billion (€1.3 billion; $1.7 billion) in capital.
