Behrman Capital nabs Bessemer partner

The private equity firm has hired Rodney Cohen, a former partner with Lindsay Goldberg & Bessemer, just a few months after luring another partner from Blackstone.

New York- and San Francisco-based private equity firm Behrman Capital announced today that Rodney Cohen, formerly a partner with New York buyout shop Lindsay Goldberg and Bessemer, has joined the firm as a partner.

Cohen will join the firm’s six other partners, including managing partners Grant Behrman and William Mathes. Cohen’s appointment marks the firm’s second major hiring at the partner position this year, following the recruitment of Blackstone managing director Simon Lonergan in January.

Cohen, 43, spent 12 years at Lindsay Goldberg and Bessemer and Bessemer Holdings, its predecessor firm, where he sat on the boards of six portfolio companies. Prior to joining Bessemer, Cohen worked for four years in the mergers and acquisition department at Morgan Stanley.

In 1990, Cohen graduated with an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He had previously spent four years working in South Africa, where he earned both a postgraduate degree and a bachelor’s degree from the University of The Witwatersrand.

Behrman Capital, founded in 1992 by brothers Grant and Darryl Behrman, has $1.8 billion under management. The firm’s latest fund closed in August 2001 with $1.2 billion in total commitments. In 2002, Darryl Behrman passed away at the age of 51.
