Carlyle Group has appointed Matthew Savino, a former BlackRock managing director, as its head of US capital markets.
Savino most recently served as global head of alternatives sourcing at BlackRock and was previously co-head of global capital markets, according to a Carlyle statement. Before BlackRock, Savino worked as an investment banker in the leveraged finance group at Barclays Capital and Lehman Brothers, as well as financing lawyer at Latham & Watkins.
New York-based Savino will focus on publicly syndicated and privately placed loan, bond and equity offerings for existing portfolio companies and new acquisitions with Carlyle’s US corporate private equity team.
“[Savino] is a critical part of the build-out of our capital markets team,” Brian Lindley, head of global capital markets, said in a statement. The four-strong team – which was created at the beginning of 2017 – also includes a director and senior associate focused on the firm’s European activity in London.
Carlyle is not the only firm to have bolstered its capital markets team this year. In June, KKR hired Go Yamashita, a former managing director of Blackstone, as head of its KKR Capital Markets team in Japan.
