Coller loses partner to rival Pantheon(2)

Rudy Scarpa has left Coller Capital, the secondaries firm founded by Jeremy Coller (pictured), to open rival Pantheon’s New York office.

Global fund-of-funds and secondaries firm Pantheon has appointed Rudy Scarpa as a partner to head up its New York office, which opens in the autumn.

Jay Pierrepoint, managing partner of the firm’s San Francisco office, said: “We’re excited about it and we want to be much closer to where a lot of dealflow is happening.  Rudy is from New York, he speaks the language there. He has a lot of energy and he is well-loved.”

Pantheon is looking to move people from its San Francisco office to New York, he said.

Scarpa was previously a partner at Coller Capital in New York working in the deal-sourcing team. Before joining Coller Capital in 2004, Scarpa worked at Thomas H. Lee Putnam Ventures, Merrill Lynch and Skadden Arps.

He will report to Elly Livingstone, head of Pantheon’s global secondaries team, who is based in London.

Pantheon’s areas of expertise are global portfolios, non-auction transactions and venture capital. Pantheon issued £100 million of shares for its listed vehicle Pantheon International Participations in May.

Pantheon International Participations already has nearly £500 million of assets under management, making it one of the biggest PEITs in the FTSE’s investment trust sector. Launched in 1987, it is also the oldest private equity fund of funds listed on the London Stock Exchange.
