Global private equity firm CVC Capital Partners has poached 3i partner and managing director, Tomas Ekman, for its Nordic team as it sees an increasing number of deals in the region, according to a statement.
Ekman, who will be based in the firm’s Stockholm office, has over 20 years of experience in private equity and senior operational roles.
He joins the firm as the Nordic investment team becomes highly active in the region, recent investments including the acquisitions of Paroc, Synsam and Ahsell, as well as the IPO of Matas.
The Paroc deal, completed in late October, saw the firm pay about €700 million for the stone wool insulation producer in the Nordic and the Baltic regions.
“We are delighted to welcome Tomas to CVC. Tomas joins us at an exciting time as we seek to capitalise on recent successes and make the most of the many investment opportunities opening up in the region,” Søren Vestergaard-Poulsen, managing partner at CVC, said in a statement.
Peter Törnquist, CVC Nordic chairman, added: “With his extensive investment experience, Tomas will play a significant role in helping to further develop our leading position in the Nordic region.”
The firm’s European teams are currently investing from CVC European Equity Partners VI, which closed on its €10.5 billion hard-cap in June 2013, PEI reported earlier. The firm, which was founded in 1981, has completed more than 300 investments in the last 30 years, with an aggregate transaction value of more than $125 billion globally.
