Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez has joined z9 Capital as Partner and EVP of Business Development. Rodriguez, a retired baseball player, is a 2017 Hall of Fame Nominee. Miami-based z9 is a venture capital firm that seeks to invest between $250,000 to $4 million in early-stage, founder-led companies.

Bregal Sagemount invests in STEELE Compliance Solutions

Bregal Sagemount said June 6 that it invested in STEELE Compliance Solutions Inc, parent of STEELE CIS and Securimate businesses. Financial terms weren’t announced. The deals calls for founder Kenneth Kurtz to be promoted to the Chairman of the Advisory Board, while Eric Lochner has been appointed CEO. San Francisco-based STEELE is a compliance intelligence firm offering third-party due diligence and software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions. Marks Baughan served as financial advisor and GTC Law Group provided legal counsel to STEELE CIS and Securimate. Goodwin Procter provided legal counsel to Bregal Sagemount.

Zhang joins General Atlantic from the Carlyle Group

General Atlantic said June 5 that Eric Zhang has joined the firm as Managing Director and Head of China. Zhang is a former Global Partner and Managing Director of The Carlyle Group.

Olympus-owned Liqui-Box hires Simon Waller as general manager

Liqui-Box, a portfolio company of Olympus Partners, hired Simon Waller as general manager, Europe/Middle East/Africa. Waller was previously an executive at Scholle IPN and Supreme Corq and will be based in Breda, The Netherlands. Liqui-Box provides packaging for the delivery of liquid and semi-liquid products.

JLL's Michel Lagarde appointed president of Patheon

Patheon, a Canadian-born drug development and manufacturing services provider, has named Michel Lagarde its president. Lagarde joins the company from JLL Partners, the U.S. private equity that helped take Patheon private for US$1.4 billion in March 2014. The deal saw the business amalgamated with a subsidiary of DPx, formed by JLL and Royal DSM. Patheon, which continues to have offices in Canada, is now based in Durham, North Carolina.

Ares and Ontario Teachers'-backed CPG International appoints new president/CEO

CPG International LLC, which is backed by Ares Management LLC and Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, has named Jesse Singh as president and CEO. Singh is succeeding Eric K. Jungbluth who retired. Singh is the former president of 3M Health Information Systems. Chicago-based CPG is a maker of building products for residential commercial and industrial markets.

BV adds new partner to team, also expands operating advisory board

Midmarket private equity firm BV Investment Partners has hired Stuart Brown as a partner. Previously, Brown worked at MHT Midspan where he recently served as managing director and head of the energy group. The firm has also added Jerry Burgess, a founder and and former CEO of Community Health Alliance of Tennessee and Dev Chanchani, founder and former CEO of INetU, to its operating advisory board.

Redett, Schreiber to become Co-Heads of Carlyle Financial Services Team

The Carlyle Group confirmed June 2 that Olivier Sarkozy has resigned from the firm and will become a Senior Advisor. Sarkozy joined Carlyle eight years ago and led the firm’s financial services team. Carlyle said that John Redett, a senior member of the Financial Services team, and Brian Schreiber, who joins the firm from AIG, will become co-heads of the Carlyle Global Financial Services team. Schreiber served as AIG’s Chief Strategy Officer, Deputy Chief Investment Officer and Global Treasurer.

James Gamett has launched Sweetwater Capital Partners to specialise in direct, co-investments and secondaries.
