Chinook Therapeutics snags Series A

Chinook Therapeutics has raised US$65 million in Series A financing. Versant Ventures led the round with participation from Apple Tree Partners and Samsara BioCapital. Based in Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia, Chinook is a developer of precision medicines for kidney diseases.

Sheridan Capital invests in Oral Surgery Partners

Sheridan Capital Partners invested in Oral Surgery Partners, an oral surgery practice management company. Sheridan invested alongside the company's surgeons and management, who have maintained ownership in the business. The deal was led by Sean Dempsey, Jonathan Lewis, Christopher McCrory and Jonathan Gavron at Sheridan.

VC-backed VenatoRx beefs up team with three new hires

Malvern, Pennsylvania-based VenatoRx, a pharmaceutical company focused on developing novel anti-infectives to treat multi-drug-resistant bacterial infections and hard-to-treat viral infections, has expanded its team with three new additions. Jennifer Ellis is now senior vice president of quality; Dr. Paul McGovern is vice president of medical sciences; and Lauren P. Tornetta has been appointed vice president of regulatory affairs. VenatoRx is backed by Versant Ventures, Abingworth and Foresite Capital.

DWHP promotes three

Toronto-based DW Healthcare Partners, a healthcare-focused private equity firm, has made three promotions: Gabe Becher is now a managing director; Eric Moore has become a principal; and Aaron Kennedy has been upped to vice president. Becher joined the firm three years ago while Moore came on board in 2012. And, Kennedy has been working with DWHP for the past four years. DWHP also has an office in Park City, Utah.

Oncorus scores $79.5 mln Series B

Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Oncorus Inc, an oncolytic virus company, has raised $79.5 million in Series B financing. Cowen Healthcare Investments and Perceptive Advisors led the round.

New Mountain-backed Signify Health and Remedy Partners to merge

New Mountain Capital portfolio companies Signify Health and Remedy Partners have agreed to merge. No financial terms were disclosed. The newly combined company will provide care solutions to organizations across health systems, provider groups, health plans and life sciences companies.

Arsenal hires ex-Baird Capital healthcare exec Michael Bernstein

Arsenal Capital Partners hired Michael Bernstein to its healthcare team. Bernstein will join as an operating partner and focus on investments in outsourced business services, payers and care provision. Bernstein joins from Baird Capital Partners, where he was a partner leading the firm's investments in healthcare since 2014. Prior to Baird, Bernstein worked for more than 20 years as president and CEO of various healthcare companies.

Centerbridge invests in GoHealth after renegotiating terms of ~$1.5 bln transaction

The previously anticipated agreement assigned GoHealth a total enterprise value of around $1.5 billion, which included a close to $1.4 billion upfront consideration and a potential earnout.

Novalis LifeSciences collects $85 mln for inaugural fund

Novalis LifeSciences, an investment and advisory firm for the life science industry, has raised $85 million for its debut fund. Novalis LifeSciences Investments I LP will invest in eight to 12 companies "commercializing breakthrough technologies in various segments of the life science industry."

Graybug Vision procures $80 mln Series C

Silicon Valley-based Graybug Vision Inc, a clinical stage pharmaceutical company, has secured $80 million in Series C financing. CBC Group led the round with participation from other investors that included Deerfield Management, OrbiMed Advisors and Hatteras Venture Partners.
