A consistent if unremarkable sector in terms of growth potential, this hasn't stopped private equity funds backing at least 68 deals in the food and drinks sector so far in 2006. As highlighted by the United Biscuits deal, it's a market where some truly large transactions are possible, but it is also one in which the smaller funds can thrive as well.
