Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, the investment banking division of German bank Dresdner, has appointed a new head at its financial sponsors group as part of its strategy to boost its M&A activity.
The bank has hired Pascal Maeter, most recently a managing director at JP Morgan Chase in London where he helped build up the financial sponsors group over the past five years. Previously, he worked at Merrill Lynch in New York for nine years, first at the bank’s merchant banking group and then its leveraged finance group.
Maeter has acted in a number of European private equity transactions during the past 18 months, among them the £255m acquisition of Aviagen Group by Advent International in May, and the purchase from Danone of Galbani by BC Partners for E1.1bn in April 2002.
In a statement, DrKW said Maeter will work across the bank’s corporate finance & advisory (CF&A) and capital markets origination (CMO) businesses. He will report to Steve Berger (executive chairman CF&A) and Joe Dryer (global head of CMO) and will be based in London.
“Maeter will lead the bank’s ongoing efforts to build its franchise with the financial sponsors community,” said Berger. “He has a strong track record in financial sponsor related transactions, especially in Europe, and given this background will make a valuable contribution to our business and that of our clients.”
Maeter is the second senior appointment made by Steve Berger, who joined DrKW in April 2003 with a remit to grow the bank’s presence in mergers & acquisitions. A spokesperson for DrKW said that a series of appointments have been made and that more are expected over the next twelve months.
