HSBC Private Equity, a UK-based mid-market investor, has further augmented its staff with the appointment of Basil Sakellis as investment manager.
Sakellis had been part of European Capital’s UK buyout team since 2006, prior to which he worked for
McKinsey as well as NM Rothschild & Sons, where he did M&A advisory work on UK mid-market deals.
HSBC Private Equity in August hired ex-Nikko Principle Investments team member Grant O’Neill as an investment director, as well as Helen Posner as an associate.
All three recent hires report to Mahmoud Atalla, head of HSBC Private Equity, which re-emerged on to the UK mid-market scene in November.
The bank had been largely absent from the market since its prior in-house group spun out in 2003 to become Montagu Private Equity.
European Capital's head of buyouts, Simon Henderson, resigned in May and was replaced by team members Giles Cheek and Alex Morey. The firm refuted a UK media report at the time which alleged the resignation signaled European Capital's withdrawl from the UK buyout market.
