Former Asda chief joins KKR

The firm has named Tony De Nunzio, the former CEO of UK supermarket chain and Wal-Mart subsidiary Asda Group, as a senior advisor, based in New York.

Kohlberg Kravis Roberts has named Tony De Nunzio, non-executive chairman of Dutch retailer Maxeda, a senior advisor at the firm.

De Nunzio, who acted as chief executive officer of Maxeda from 2005 to 2011, is also the non-executive chairman of UK-based specialty pet product retailer Pets at Home and pharmacy-led health and beauty group Alliance Boots. Maxeda, Pets at Home and Alliance Boots are all KKR portfolio companies.

At KKR, De Nunzio will serve on the firm’s private equity portfolio management committee. He will be based in New York.

Prior to joining in Maxeda in 2005, De Nunzio was president CEO and CFO of UK supermarket chain and Wal-Mart subsidiary Asda Group. He previously worked in the international consumer goods sector at Unilever, L’Oreal and Pepsi.

Last month, KKR appointed DS Brar, the former director of the Reserve Bank of India, as a senior advisor in Mumbai. Brar spent the majority of his career at Indian pharmaceutical company Ranbaxy Laboratories, where he was named chief executive officer in 1999, before leaving in 2004 to join life sciences and laboratory solutions company GVK Biosciences.
