HGGC promotes four

Hudson Smith and Neil White have been promoted to managing director and will play a greater role in leading deals.

California’s HGGC has promoted Hudson Smith Jr. and Neil White to managing director and Farouk Hussein and Steven Leistner to principal.

Smith and White, who joined the California private equity group in 2009, will play a greater role in leading transactions and report to HGGC’s Executive Committee. They will also continue with deal origination and portfolio company monitoring activities, the firm said in a statement.

HGGC, a midmarket private equity firm, is investing its second fund, a $1.3 billion vehicle that closed this year. White helped raise the fund and is also involved with overseeing portfolio companies Pearl Holding, iQor and Gee Holdings.

Smith has been working with HGGC portfolio companies Serena Software along with Hussein and Leistner, and Survey Sampling International, Selligent, MyWebGrocer and MaMa Rosa.

Hussein joined HGGC three years ago after a stint at JMI Equity, while Leistner joined the firm in 2009. Both were promoted from vice president.
