Israeli animation company receives $10m investment

Draper Fisher Jurvetson, DFJ Tamir Fishman Ventures and Evergreen Venture Partners are backing aniBoom’s expansion and content-creation plans.

Venture capital firms Draper Fisher Jurvetson, DFJ Tamir Fishman Ventures and Evergreen Venture Partners have led an investment round of $10 million (€6.3 million) in aniBoom, an independent animated media network management company headquartered in Israel.

aniBoom works with untapped talent to create, produce and distribute animation brands to the web, mobile, gaming and TV media industries around the world. It maintains aniboom.com, a website where users create, watch and share cartoons and animations.

The Series B funding will be used by the company to expand its operations, to finance the creation of premium content for web and mobile platforms, and to develop original animation series for television.

Andreas Stavropoulos, managing director at Draper Fisher Jurvetson, said in a statement: “The new media content space and specifically animation, is growing at an explosive rate. aniBoom created a disruptive model harnessing the power and reach of digital distribution to generate tremendous opportunities for animated content.”

More than 4,000 independent creators are members of the company’s network and have their movies featured on the company’s website.

Erez Shachar, general partner at Evergreen Venture Partners, which is already an existing investor in the company, said the firm “recognized a solid business model” in the animation company.

Draper Fisher Jurvetson is headquartered in Menlo Park, and both DFJ Tamir Fishman Ventures and Evergreen Venture Partners have their head offices in Tel Aviv.
