KKR enhances India presence

Kohlberg Kravis Roberts has underlined its Indian ambitions with the hire of former Goldman Sachs India chief Heramb Hajarnavis.

Global private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts has bolstered its Mumbai office with the appointment of former Goldman Sachs managing director Heramb Hajarnavis, the firm said in a statement.

Hajarnavis will serve as director at KKR. He will work closely with Sanjay Nayar, chief executive officer of KKR India, to further the firm’s private equity interests in the country.

While at Goldman, he led the firm's Indian operations for its principal investment area. Hajarnavis also took on a senior management position at Centennial Communications, a NASDAQ listed private equity-led portfolio company, in between stints at Goldman.

In April, KKR had sought to hire Citigroup finance head Abhijit Sen in a bid to fortify its executive ranks in India. However, the move did not go through for undisclosed reasons.

KKR has invested more than $1.1 billion in India since 2006.
